Mexico does not begin and end in Cancun. In fact, once you leave this tourist town you will find a remarkable new world to explore and enjoy. It is a place with an extraordinary amount of unique flora and fauna, ecological parks, archeological sites, pristine white sand beaches and the most beautiful sea in the world - the Caribbean. With over 100 kilometers of the most attractive beaches, considered some of the best in the world, make up a totally wonderful place - the RIVIERA MAYA.

During the past twenty years, this northern coast of the State of Quintana Roo has been evolving into a popular tourist area, centering in the famed city of Cancun. Tourists are anxious to explore beyond their hotels. Beginning twenty kilometers south of Cancun’s International airport, travelers discover an entirely new world of small independent towns and communities. There are fewer
people and many unrivaled activities to see and participate in. The most gorgeous beaches, an awesome and intricate system of underground rivers with an abundance of cenotes, an immense lush tropical jungle, and a spectacular Caribbean Great Maya Reef all create the Riviera Maya. Three excavated archaeological sites - Tulum, Coba and Xel Ha - along with Tankah and hundreds of other Mayan remnants add to the adventure. Fascinating tropical birds and exotic animals exist in the jungle along with an abundance of
marine life on the reefs.

The Riviera Maya, from Punta Brava to Punta Allen is made up of a large number of individual places, each with its own identity and appeal. The towns of Puerto Morelos and Playa Del Carmen have changed from sleepy fishing villages into popular resorts and places of activity. This web site will
concentrate on the incredible cenotes and caletas starting north in Puerto Aventuras and going south past Xpu Ha, Kantenah, Akumal, Aventuras Akumal, Chemuyil, X’cacel, Xel Ha, Tankah, Tulum, Boca Paila, Punta Allen and west to Pino Suarez. The growth of resorts and hotels in recent years has been astonishing.

During the next decade, hotel rooms will expand to 50,000 plus. The completion of the new, modern highway 307 has made travel safer, more comfortable and easier to get about between towns and other places of interest, where visitors can discover and enjoy the variety of wonders each day.

The choices for accommodations, dining and outdoor activities are varied and abundant within this nirvana. The Riviera Maya has something for everyone. Accommodations range from luxurious hotels to the simple life of hammocks on the beach looking at the stars. There is more. Deep sea fishing, golf courses at Puerto Aventuras and Playacar, open water reef diving, cavern diving tours, snorkeling adventures, horse back riding, jungle treks and tours to archaeological sites are examples of the variety of things to do. Each evening, after a full day of fun and leisure, you can find a wide range of international
restaurants which offer anything you desire.

Touring south, visitors can go to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve known as “Where the Sky Begins”! This immense area is surrounded by lush jungle, swamps, lakes, bays and reef providing the natural habitat for thousands of animal and plant species. The tiny fishing village of Punta Allen serves the furthest point south of the Riviera Maya - the place that contributes adventure, refinement, leisure and festivity.

The environment is a very special concern to everyone who lives here. With the continuing growth and rapid changes, Mexico is making a strong effort to recycle and educate the people about conservation and ecology. There is a greater respect for the natural surroundings and progress is being made to protect and preserve the beauty of the area. Beach clean ups and ecological education campaigns are regularly conducted. The resort area of Akumal has organized an aggressive environmental association which implements important rules and regulations to help protect the local reefs, beaches, the caleta of Yal Ku and the underground water quality. Those actions have made a significant difference and represent a shining example of environmental protection for the entire Riviera Maya to observe, execute and establish firm control of the delicate ecosystem.

The Riviera Maya is blessed with beauty, charm and excitement. It represents the history of the ancient Mayan civilization. The magnificent Caribbean coast offers endless outdoor activities and the tremendous wealth of the spectacular cenotes and the surrounding jungle make this area an incredible
destination. With an abundance of hotels, condominiums, resorts and an incredible variety of cuisine to satisfy any taste or budget..... it is an exciting never-ending experience.
